What Meta Ads is and why it is indispensable
Meta Ads is the advertising platform of Meta — the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. Through a single interface (Meta Ads Manager, formerly Facebook Business Manager), you can create and manage ads that appear across all these environments: feed, stories, reels, marketplace, in-stream videos, direct messages and even partner apps in the Audience Network.
The strength of Meta Ads rests on two pillars: massive reach (more than 140 million active Brazilians across Facebook and Instagram) and deep behavioral data. The platform knows precisely each user’s interests, buying behavior, life events, relationship status, device types and consumption patterns — enabling targeting no other channel offers. It is the ideal tool to create demand (show your product to people who didn’t know they needed it), build your brand, re-engage visitors and scale sales in e-commerce and digital products.
The main ad formats in Meta Ads
Facebook and Instagram Feed
The most traditional ads, which appear among organic posts from friends and followed pages. They can be a single image, carousel (multiple images/videos in one piece), video or collection (an immersive format, great for catalogs). It is the most versatile format and usually performs well at any stage of the funnel. We continuously test variations of hooks, offers and creatives to identify which messages resonate best with each audience.
Stories and Reels
Full-screen vertical formats, ideal for mobile consumption. Stories disappear after 24 hours but have very high engagement rates when the creative is native to the platform (recorded as if it were an organic story). Reels have been Instagram’s main bet in recent years to compete with TikTok — they have high organic reach and, when boosted, deliver very competitive CPMs. We always recommend creatives made specifically for these formats, never adaptations of square pieces.
Marketplace, Direct and Messenger
Less explored formats with underestimated potential. Marketplace ads work very well for physical products (especially low-to-mid ticket). With Messenger and Direct, you can start direct conversations with leads from an ad click — ideal for consultative businesses that close sales through conversation (real estate, clinics, B2B services).
Audience Network and In-Stream
Ads shown in Meta partner apps and in Facebook Watch videos. CPM is usually lower, ideal for awareness and remarketing campaigns with a reach objective. It requires strict monitoring because traffic quality varies — we only keep placements that deliver metrics consistent with the campaign’s objective.
Campaign objectives: how to choose the right one
Meta Ads organizes campaigns by objective — and that choice defines which optimization algorithm the platform will use. Getting it wrong is one of the main reasons companies waste budget. The main objectives:
- Conversions: optimizes for people most likely to take a specific action on your site (purchase, sign-up, booking). It is the most common and most powerful objective — it requires a configured Pixel.
- Traffic: sends people to a URL without optimizing for conversion. Useful in early stages or for blog posts, but usually has a worse CPA than Conversions.
- Engagement / Interactions: optimizes for likes, comments and shares. Great for social proof and posts that need public validation.
- Leads: generates sign-ups inside Facebook/Instagram itself (without leaving for the website) through instant forms. Leads come cheaper but tend to be less qualified.
- Reach: maximizes impressions in the selected audience. Useful for launches, limited-time offers and branding.
- Brand awareness: optimizes for ad recall. For large brands in a top-of-funnel phase.
Pixel and tracking: the foundation of everything
The Meta Pixel is a small piece of JavaScript installed on your site that captures events (page view, add to cart, checkout, lead generated, etc.) and feeds the platform’s intelligence. Without it, Meta Ads is “blind” — unable to know which ads generated conversions, which audiences performed best or how to optimize for the next click.
Since 2021, with the privacy changes in iOS (ATT) and the Safari browser, tracking through the Pixel alone has become more limited. That is why today it is essential to complement it with the Conversions API (CAPI), which sends events directly from your server to Meta, without depending on the browser. We implement CAPI in every project — via server-side Google Tag Manager, native integrations (Shopify, VTEX, Hotmart) or custom code. The result is more accurate data, better matching and more reliable attribution.
Creatives: what matters most in 2026
With the advance of automated optimization algorithms (Advantage+), manual targeting has lost its leading role. What most determines the success of a Meta Ads campaign today is the creative: the video, the image, the text the user sees. A well-thought-out piece can have a CPA 5x better than a mediocre one shown to the same audience.
Our philosophy is to test variations at volume: we produce 10, 15, 20 creatives per round, run them all in parallel and let the algorithm distribute budget to the best performers. We explore different angles: product demonstration, social proof, pain and solution, before and after, storytelling, humor, urgency, authority. With each learning cycle, the winning creatives become the basis for new variations — a process we call a “living library”. We work in partnership with the client’s in-house team or produce everything ourselves, depending on the contract scope.
A complete funnel strategy
People rarely see your ad for the first time and buy. That’s why running isolated campaigns isn’t enough — you need to structure a paid media funnel that follows the user through every stage of the decision.
- Top of funnel (awareness): educational or entertaining content that introduces the brand to cold audiences (Advantage+ Audience, broad interests, lookalikes).
- Middle of funnel (consideration): social proof, testimonials, comparisons and content showing why the solution beats the alternatives. Audience: people who engaged with the top.
- Bottom of funnel (conversion): direct offers, urgency, strong CTAs. Audience: site visitors, people who added to cart, people who viewed the pricing page.
- Post-sale / retention: ads for existing customers with cross-sell, upgrade or loyalty offers. Often forgotten, but with outstanding ROAS.
How we measure success
Unlike Google Ads, Meta usually has a longer attribution window — someone may see the ad today, visit the site tomorrow and only buy next week. That’s why, beyond CPA and ROAS, we look at creative quality metrics (engagement rate, average video watch time, link click-through rate), pixel signals (cart and checkout events), and cost per first purchase vs. repeat purchase. Our goal isn’t “selling for the sake of selling” — it’s building a structure that generates predictable revenue month after month, with growing LTV.
Who does it work best for?
Meta Ads shines especially in: D2C e-commerce (fashion, beauty, home decor, pets), digital products and courses, SaaS with a free trial, high-ticket services (real estate, aesthetic clinics, consultancies), brands that invest in storytelling (food, travel, lifestyle) and apps. It works less well in very technical niches or extremely narrow B2B niches — in those cases, LinkedIn Ads or Google Ads usually deliver a better CPA. If your audience is on social media and your product benefits from visual demonstration, Meta Ads is a must in your strategy.
